"12 million Green & UKIP voters get a miserly 3 seats in the Commons" Hi Denis not to detract from the point you have made but UKIP and the Greens combined received just under 5.5m votes (not 12 million - time to emigrate if that ever happened). The Green's received just 1.57m votes and UKIP 3.88m. The list systems common to many PR mechanisms are a thoroughly bad idea. Most of us are familiar with this system from Euro elections - and what a farce they usually are. Lists are part of the career politicians' gravy train and an idea that appeals only to maths obsessed nerds, definitely not a way of ensuring greater accountability by politicians to the electorate. |
