Mark - the alternative vote system has many flaws and few friends. Its only advantage is that it would retain the single member constituency concept. Some were prepared to accept AVS as a first step towards a "full" PR system. But can you really support a system where voters second best preference can determine who your MP is? If we were to vote on moving to a PR system we would first need to decide which PR system. I would suggest that a Royal Commission on Constitutional Reform is required. By its very nature this will take a long time to complete its work. |
