Sorry, meant to add: we cannot ban everything that is toxic for animals. We would therefore also have to ban lillies as they are a frequent cause of poisoning, especially in cats. (M&S did label its lillies as being toxic for pets which is useful). Heating non-stick pans kills parrots, blu-tack emits vapours that kill mygalomorph spiders (tarantulas), dogs have died after coming into contact with cocoa mulch garden fertiliser and I know of a puppy that died because the owner dropped a silicon gel packet when opening a parcel and the puppy bit into it as it fell to the floor.
The list is endless. In the end, we need to be vigilent, train our dogs, educate the public, campaign to stop litter and fly tipping and, sometimes, sadly, however careful we are, just accept that accidents happen. |
