Unfortunately it is not at all well known, Charlotte, even among dog owners. A woman in the park didn't believe me when I had to restrain my dog from gulping down a large cake she had left on the ground, which her dog was tucking into when I told her it was potentially lethal - she said 'don't be stupid, I give it to my children.' Very few people actually know about this danger and the warning is timely. I also agree it should be banned. Dogs don't often find onions, grapes etc while they are out on a walk but very often find discarded food such as chewing gum or biscuit which could easily contain this ingredient. I see people feeding their dogs ice cream in the park. They think a little won't do any harm, they have no idea how toxic this substance is. |
