Nearly every plane crash ever has been witnessed by someone saying it was 'on fire in the air', despite this rarely being the case. People backfill information in time and exaggerate for the press, it's one of the perennial problems with investigations, which is why we tend to use technical evidence instead. What is unarguable (as far as FR24 ADS-B collection is unarguable) is that it proceeded in a straight line on its normal course at a reasonably sharp but consistent descent and that someone changed the target altitude on the autopilot from 38,000 feet to 100 feet just before that. That's not consistent with an aircraft with a significant technical problem. |
