"..we’re always being told that it takes weeks/months to retrieve sufficient data from a black box to give an indication of the likely cause of a plane crash.." Do you have any knowledge of how the extraction of data from a black box works, or are you just speculating ? The cockpit voice recorder seems to have been recovered fairly quickly, and the analysts would naturally have concentrated on the final fifteen minutes of the flight. There is no reason why it should take very long to work out what was going on there if what we are being told happened could be heard on the recording. If there has been a mechanical failure then it may take much longer to go through the electronic information to pinpoint the cause of a crash, but if, as it seems, the cause was deliberate action by the co-pilot, then it does not seem unreasonable that this can be established without much delay. |
