It seems like a perfect opportunity to raise some extra tax to help with the deficit. Cheaper road fuel is has bad side effects as it tends to increase pollution and road congestion. Why not choose a price below which road fuel should not fall (e.g. £1.40 per litre) and than any difference between the price of production and this goes to the exchequer? |
