So we haven't managed to find a way to avoid soaking the dried kidney beans then?

I have a favourite dish which I have yet to perfect in the slow cooker  It is basically butterbeans tomatoes and onions (with herbs and lots of bay leaves) which I finish off by putting under the grill with strips of bacon on the top.  The following day it is nice spread onto bread like a pate.
