I recollect that, in the 2007 Conservative/ICG budget, £400,000 was set aside to increase Chief Officer pay even though a number of them were already receiving £100,000 a year and more.

At the time the justification was that senior officers were not receiving as much as their counterparts in the private sector. I recall opposing the proposal on the basis that it was an undeserved bonus for the council's fat cats.

I am curious as to why the Conservatives, who are today in opposition in Hounslow, seem to have adopted a u-turn on this issue. Opportunism perhaps?
