For those of us with small front gardens and nowhere to put ugly 105cm bins, there's still time to act. On the Glebe estate where I live, 45+ people have opted out of a bin already. If you opt out of a bin now, you can opt back in again later if disposing of your own rubbish proves too much. In the meantime it will help to show the Council our strength of feeling. We have until tomorrow to opt out (email matthew.williamson@hounslow.gov.uk). It is also be worth emailing the Council Leader, Steve Curran (steve.curran@hounslow.gov.uk) if you are against the bins. There has been no consultation or move to offer half-size bins for single-person household or people with small gardens. I appreciate that wheelie bins might be a good solution for some areas, but for those of us living in small Victorian terraces, it will ruin the appearance of our streets - and in many cases actually disincentivise re-cycling given the size of the bin relative to our needs and to our gardens. |
