| Kevin I've received a response to your earlier most interesting suggestion 'Not quite. Sending waste to the new energy plant will avoid landfill, reducing the environmental impact (even allowing for the transport to the plant) it will also help us to manage costs as we have more certainty of the capital and operating costs for the new plant than landfill tax for which we only have visibility for 2015/16. Unfortunately waste going through the plant is classified as “recovery” (of energy) rather than recycling. There will be about 2% additional recycling as any metals in the waste will be recovered from the ash. About 85% of the ash from the plant will be recycled (as a construction aggregates) but this does not count towards household recycling rates. |
