| They haven't said that recycling is to be made mandatory but it actually already is in quite a few London boroughs... I agree with Dan that this is what the contractors would like to reduce their costs but I don't think it is the answer to increasing the flatlining percentages. People with small gardens do not want large and often empty ugly wheelie bins camped there. There are other options. It is a shame that more effort is not put into encouraging people to recycle. How many people are still putting out more than one black bagful of waste per week? Surely those who are are the people who should be visited to make sure that they have the containers required for recycling and have a waste audit. Waste audits are offered to households elsewhere who want help to reduce the residual waste they make. I agree that if we can't be bothered we should pay but of course that is easier when wheelie bins are used and most people actually have only one black bag or less per week. Rima where is the system that you refer to in use? |
