>> So what's the solution ? Building upon other's call for solutions / constructive ideas, how about changing the road layout such that: A. It is made one way for cars (the actual direction should be determined by traffic study) then B. The current road is split width-wise, with a barrier (low concrete) put in place to offer segregation between cycles & cars. That suggests to me helpful outcomes for all including: 1 - Improved safety for all users with one "flow" to consider when using the road 2 - Reducing the "cut through" volume of cars 3 - A safe passage for cyclists on a reasonable surface 4 - Continued access to all facilities for those who need to drive there. 5 - Relatively low installation & maintenance costs compared to other options such as a new path, monitored gates, closing the road X hours per week, etc. |
