The lap challenge is a problem in itself as the best times are all set by breaking the speed limit within the park. At busy times I can sympathise with pedestrians because due to the volume of cars and road cyclists, and the absence of any zebra crossings or such like, it can be hard for some pedestrians to find a safe time/place to cross - we have to remember not all the park users are as 'athletic' as others. And just to be clear I'm not supportive of traffic calming measures or zebra crossings or such like within the park, but generally speaking we do need to recognise that Richmond Park due to its location is a 'one off' and isn't comparable with a National Park like the Peak District where there's rarely any reason/need for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles to be in conflict with one another. |
