We actually returned to sending more real Christmas cards this year.  Many especially older friends like to be able to use them as decorations (they no longer can or want to struggle with Christmas trees and ladders) and also read them more than once - so it's worth while and appreciated when there's more than just a signature to show you're still alive.  It's also nice to have a rest from screens and struggling with ever changing IT!
