| You are correct about the roundabout. It remains absolutely necessary to give priority to buses and cyclist turning right into the underpass. My method of dealing with drivers who ignore right of way is to not catch their eye but give a clear signal. They all stop. Fishers Lane clearly was problematic pre the closure and could occasionally become jammed when stubborn drivers refused to give way. However, it does need to be recognised that this has led to consistent queueing traffic on Acton Lane and regular queueing traffic on South Parade which, given the narrowness of the road, makes them unusable on a bike. This isn't a cyclists vs motorist issue - the question is on balance does the closure cause harm or do good. If you think this a straightforward matter, you haven't properly considered the question. On the road markings into Chiswick Common Road, my view is that this not a great road to cycle down because of its narrowness. If you meet a car coming in the opposite direction, a close pass is inevitable. My recommendation, particularly for people with kids would be to cross the common diagonally but be very careful at the blind corner by the Rocks Lane courts. Finally, 'the fine they pay is insignificant in the grand scheme of things' is something you might expect to hear from Rishi Sunak. £65 might not matter to some people but it is half a day's pay for other and a significant part of their disposable income after bills. These days I rarely see vehicles going through the underpass which probably indicates that Waze and other Sat Navs are now up to date. The remaining few that seem to be getting caught out are driving the kind of cars and vans that suggest they don't have sufficient funds for an unlimited data package on their mobile phones. |
