| Perhaps a bit early to start apportioning blame here. The red car may not even have been involved. That said approaching these junctions by bike can develop into a game of chicken and I have developed the habit of accelerating into the to discourage drivers emerging from the side roads laying across them. If a cyclist sought to this in wet conditions and was forced to swerve by a car edging out despite not having right of way then it is easy to see how someone could have come off their bike. There is no excuse for drivers who block the cycleway as cyclists are approaching but I have found myself in the situation where I have ended up blocking it having been unable to join queueing traffic for an extended period. There were vehicles behind me on Duke Road and no visible cyclists when I moved onto the cycleway. If anyone knows what the correct procedure is at this junction, please share. |
