| The Voter ID policy may or may not have 'backfired'. I wouldn't be surprised if it has, but I think it will be several weeks before any hard evidence about its effect will be available. In the meantime, could we please tone down the ageism that seems to be a feature of many of the contributions on topics like this one? There seems to be an assumption that most of us over, say, 70 are doddery old fools who can't use phones or computers and only have the haziest grasp of what is going on in the world around them. I can assure you that many of us, at what you might call an advanced age, do use computers, do keep up with current events and do continue with intellectual and artistic pursuits. In fact, I would suggest that it is more likely to be members of the younger generation who would turn up at a polling station without ID, as it hadn't been mentioned on Instagram or TikTok. Ok, rant over. |
