This morning, Saturday 15th June, Ringway a CIP contractor in partnership with LB Hounslow have demolished all of the street lampposts in Park Road. The old lampposts, which were approximately five meters tall, have been replaced with new lamp-posts which are in excess of eight meters tall. Consequently, as Park Road is a tree lined street, most of the new lamppost heads are buried in the tree tops and even the contractors found it difficult to install them, particularly the lamppost outside 55 Park Road. A member of the installation crew, said that Ringway designers in cooperation with LBH approved the design of the street lighting. I doubt if any member of either Ringway or LBH lighting design team set foot in Park Raod! These new street lamps will beautifully illuminate the centres of the tree tops but will do nothing to provide safety for both vehicle drivers and pedestrians. I am not a street lighting designer but looking at the lamp heads, even in a street devoid of trees, the light is only directed at the road and will probably not reach the pavement on either side of the road. The vehicles involved in the installation and road side barriers have the logo on saying 'Hounslow Highways. Delivering better streets'. Waste of council tax payers money? I think so. I would be very pleased to hear from any person involved with this scheme, from LB Hounslow or Ringway to hear if they think they have done a good job! PS. I have taken many photos of the installation of the lamppost, which I feel prove my point. Please contact me if you would like to see them.
