Some key points which I picked up this evening, and where I differ from Jane: 1. It may be a shame to knock down the existing house, but it provides little scope for decent quality supported accommodation (it housed only 9 units, many with shared bathrooms), and having seen the architects drawings of converting the old building, which leaves virtually no garden, I think a rebuild is probably the best solution. 2. This is a preliminary design, BEFORE either Conservation and Planning or local residents (inc tonight) have provided their views. I am satisfied that the architects are sensitive to the impact of good and bad new building in the area, and in their final design will respect details and features in nearby housing without trying to create a pastiche. If I am wrong, I will object strongly. |
