The romance of the music store and vinyl LPs is something that will live on in the hearts of many and there has been a degree of resurgence of those buying LPs - many of which don't even have a record player. Also the sales of CDs are plummeting, as are DVDs and other physical media.

Instead we have the world of the internet. For many younger people this has become their record store - a place they can discover new music, talk about it and find new exciting bands to go and see. This has lead to a live music scene that is far more vibrant than anytime in the past, with a wider range of diverse and highly talented musicians fighting for the attention of those who will still take a punt on seen a band they know next to nothing about.

Also sites like Vimeo have democratised film making, allowing artists to create and share their content without the need to produce a DVD and have the backing of a promotion company.

The future high streets will have far more places to eat, buy food and showroom type stores rather than the specialist stores we have loved from the past. My view is that this change can have many positive sides to it even if it's sad to see a local shop that many enjoy close.
