Michael, continuing to repeat something doesn't make it any truer. There is no doubt in my mind that mixed ability teaching after the age of 11 in most subjects is a mistake. It takes a particuarly gifted and tenacious teacher to teach widely differing children consistantly well. The brighter ones doze off, the less academic filter out the 'difficult subjects' until you arrive a place where everyone, including the pupils is sick and tired of school. I notice that the West london free school has more than a thousand applicants for about a hundred places this year. A sure sign that parents and pupils alike want to give Mr. Gove and his 'policies' a chance. As Cromwell once said' Consider that you might be wrong' |
