| OK Carrie. I do not see exactly why I should be the one who has to fill in the clearly very large gaps in your education but here goes. Those who are motivated by money take every opportunity that comes their way to accumulate wealth i.e. saving. Having accumulated some wealth they invest it either in their own businesses or those of others. If those businesses are successful they make profits which are taxed. They pay dividends which are also taxed. They then employ people whose incomes are taxed. The Government uses these taxes to spend on things like your education. The process of the rich becoming richer is therefore a good thing for the rest of us. In addition the rich are not dependent on basic state provided services such as housing, education and healthcare - so more money is left over for the government to spend on the rest of us. That is unless some bozo decides to pay universal benefits to rich people who do not need them. It is also mind-numbingly obvious that once you have made your first million, or whatever, you are in a position where most of your basic human needs are met i.e. food, shelter and clothing. Yes you can eat six meals a day and snack on caviar, yes you can by a bigger house or more expensive shoes but ultimately you will still be left with more money to invest and thereby increase your wealth even more. Finally when you are really rich and successful people come to you with schemes for you to invest in and make even more money. Some of these people are very wicked and will advise you on how to avoid or evade paying tax. Ultimately rich people pay far more tax than poor people. There are taxes like capital gains tax and inheritance tax in addition to VAT, income tax and national insurance. Poor people do not pay CGT or IHT but a significant number of rich people do. This is by and large a good thing. If we did not have rich people paying a lot of tax our welfare state would collapse and there would simply not be enough tax revenues to pay for schools, hospitals, courts, teachers, doctors, judges - the list is endless. So there you are Carrie you have got it all upside down what we need is fewer poor people and more rich people. Now, you tell me how we can make poor people wealthier - its a simple question but don't tell me that you must take the wealth away from the rich people. That's been tried before and it did not work - or rather it nearly destroyed this country. |
