I agree Vanessa that Labour did argue for a a less draconian cutback before the election, but not clearly or convincingly enough. But I think Ed Milliband was a bad choice as a leader and although I like Alan Johnson I think it is wrong that at such a critical economic time Labour has a Shadow Chancellor who admits he knows nothing about economics (and a D Alexander on welfare who seems too similar in all respects to the government's D Alexander). Although I don't like what the media have let me know of him, I think Ed Balls would at least have made a strong counter argument. With the Lib Dems and much of the media now pro-Government I think a stronger and clearer opposition is vital. Anyway, I think this is a side issue in relation to Ireland and the continuing economic crisis. But still worth discussing... |
