Fraser is right. Ireland may well consider leaving the eurozone as most of its exports go to the UK, the USA and elsewhere outside the eurozone. Low euro interest rates have been a disaster for Ireland. So has been the consequent wage and price inflation which now makes Ireland uncompetitive in many respects e.g tourism and exports. Most Irish economists have been warning about this for years but the politicians have not listened. If Ireland leaves the eurozone, which currency will it adopt - the dollar, the pound or the Swiss franc ? |
