Not cheaper?. I need to go to Manchester in March - it's £66.10 return from St Pancras or £66 from LHR on BMI. Both cheapest possible non-refundable tickets. I'm not convinced about this city centre to city centre thing either - surely in fact most journeys either start or end outside the centre and it might well be easier to get from wherever that point is to the airport than to the central station. From Chiswick for example it's much easier to drive to LHR than to Euston - and on the tube it's about evens. And since you mentioned baggage - taking heavy baggage on a plane journey is far far easier than on a train - well I think so anyway. I'm not saying that planes are better than trains but I think there is a place and need for both. If the train really is better then presumably the airlines will eventually close the route as unprofitable - as has been predicted here for LHR-MAN. |
