HACAN have rather wasted their money here. They asked CE Delft to analyse the Oxford Economic Forecasting report, paid for by BAA, which came up with the ridiculous figure of a £7bn A YEAR benefit of Heathrow expansion. But this report does not form the basis of the government's economic case for expansion. That is a much better argued government document* released at the start of the consultation which gives a total benefit of a third runway at a more credible £6.6 to £7.7 bn. There are still very good grounds to question this figure regarding construction costs, oil prices and emissions costs , but HACAN have missed their target and left the government's economic case for Heathrow unchallenged. *http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/aviation/environmentalissues/ukairdemandandco2forecasts/ |
