Interesting subject! During the recent Clan MacTavish enquiries..remember those!..I recall one of the historians mentioning to me ..in passing..about a tunnel around the old Chiswick area to the river. Maybe it was Boston House..or was it from Fullers..or was it from the Church..or from one the Houses on Chiswick Mall. Smuggling was the activity! I wouldn't be surprise if there was a secret escape route from underneath Chiswick House.. in view of all the important people who visit the "Masonic" place 200-220 years ago. Maybe some pubs in the area have secret passages leading somewhere! Kew Palace opposite Brentford's waterside might have a tunnel too. Did Cromwell hide on Oliver's Island opposite the City Barge..accessed by a tunnel from one to the other. A tunnel under the old Chiswick Town Hall? Off subject, but one never see people walking in or out of the MI5 or MI6 buildings in London..at Vauxhall bridge or at Lambeth Bridge. Must be a secret access from somewhere! |
