OK, one by one: 1. Google: I get the option to block the advertising and "sponsored links" in Google and get search results only - individualy for each of the Google search sites (books, groups, answers, etc) plus other search related options My right-click menu is not just the basic "search Google" which IE7 has now added, but lets me access any other Gooogle search. I have chosen google, images, maps and groups for my right-click menu but anything from answers to froogle is also possible. 2. IE tab: fair enough, although it says more about the site if it doesn't support more than one browser platform than it does abot the browser that can morph to cope with that. 3. It is a flaw of Windows not to pick up the Favourites/Bookmarks of the default browser but only to display what you have saved in IE. FFx says, ok, we can accommodate that. I only still have the Favorites so that I can launch a site from the start button now and then and may do away with them in the end. 4. Flash ads: no, I do not mean pop ups. I mean the irritating animated advertising that surrounds almost every bit of text on the web now. These used to be gifs but are now mostly created in Flash and Flash can be blocked, displaying just the Flash logo instead. One click on the logo activates the animation so it's never lost, just suppressed until you want to see it. Pleasingly it also works with Flash overlays - that's what I think you were alluding to with the pop ups - it renders them see through. To my knowledge there is no software that prevents overlays. Many advertisers now have software that detects your pop up blocker and switches to overlay to annoy you anyway. 4. Cooliris on IE7: have searched the addon site for the term and not found it, so if you know where to install it from let me know. 5. speed vs functionality: I made my choice, you make yours. What I've described is a fraction of what is possible and actually a tiny part of what I have in addons - I also contol my music player (ANY music player I chose) from the browser so I don't have to switch to it to skip a track, search for one, fiddle with the sound, etc. Functionality it is for me. Lastly: how do you format text in a post? I'm very impressed with the bold text. |
