High taxes on those who can't "avoid" paying them, declining public services, crumbling infrastructure, and an elite pulling further away from everyone else in terms of wealth.

All hallmarks of a country cursed with corruption. The Dirty Business drama makes it clear. The ex corruption investigating cop says the situation with the water companies is like organised crime. When EA workers are told to let the Water Companies "self regulate" and then their cars are taken off them to stop them from making inspections, it is clear why. Years of extracting all the money we pay in bills in dividends and bonuses, whilst doing little or no maintenance, has put the system into a critical condition with frequent failures. Solution, make sure that the failures aren't reported, deny, deny, obfuscate and get your political friends to protect you.

Nationalised or not, we are all going to pay a lot more for our water. Nationalisation is very unlikely as Kier Starmer has ruled it out, it isn't in the scope of the review. I imagine the review is to distance government from the rise. They'll say it's not them imposing it, it's what the independent review recommended.

We all have to hope that the water companies have grown and conscience and won't, as they have up till now, take the increase in our bills in  bonuses and dividends.
