| 'Leaving the crossings open' doesn't consider the particular circumstances on Bollo Lane where there are 2 crossings very close to each other. A reason to close level crossings is to reduce people being killed or injured at them, and the disruption to train services when drivers inevitably crash into them. Two busy level crossings next to each other may actually be more than twice the risk given there will be drivers frustrated at a long wait at one level crossing immediately facing another long wait at the next. As mentioned in planning documentation, funding for pedestrian bridges over the Bollo Lane crossings will be provided by the developer. I'd hope they will be better than Mortlake where the footbridge isn't accessible. |
