Obviously the story is completely baseless nonsense - must be a quiet news week. I note with horror that I assumed that Liz Truss would last until 2024 in this thread so thanks Felicity for resurrecting a post that will further damage my reputation as a prognosticator. One thing that may still be accurate is Johnson having a go at getting the Henley seat. This is wear he actually has bought a house and the sitting MP is standing down. What I don't know, because it hasn't really been made clear in the coverage of this farce, is how candidate selection works in the Tory Party. Does Central Office have a veto or could Johnson have been cultivating the constituency association with a view to getting him selected and there is nothing that Sunak can do if this happens? It could be therefore that he always intended to quit Uxbridge because he knew he would lose and the Select Committee report just gave him an pretext to stand down. |
