Car owners just have to get used to the fact that the age of (relatively) cheap motoring is coming to an end. For governments all over the world have concluded that for reasons of pollution, climate-change and congestion, we can no longer accommodate ther present number of cars on the roads, never mind future increases. This is particularly so n cities. Meaning that we are going to see progressivly more measures to discourage car usage unless strictly necessary, and/or the switch to electric for those vehicles which are indispensible. While in countries like the UK, where cars are a significant source of revenue (fuel duty, road tax, VAT etc), then those revenues are going to have to be found by other means (tolls, road pricing, higher electricity tarrifs, LEZ's etc). And as a confirmed city dweller AND a car owner, I say "Bring it on!" |
