"Thence the northern boundary, mainly with Acton, ran west-south-west across Stamford Brook common, to follow the course of a Roman road between Acton Green common and the Back (later Chiswick) common." That Roman road is effectively a continuation of Oxford Street and Bayswater Road to what became Goldhawk Road, but was actually named as Roman Road on the 1869 map. If you follow that line along Bath Road and across the common, you find yourself in Chiswick Road, and hence on to Chiswick High Road which bends on to that alignment at Halford's. |
