Did it address the subject of the thread or even the salient point? No, it illustrated perfectly that the author completely missed the point. If the sole reason for posting a comment is to denigrate someone, please keep it to yourself or PM the intended recipient and have your spat in private. The person who loses most by abusive behaviour is the person who instigates it. We all lose collectively because it keeps voices off the forum that could make a positive contribution. I'm not going to lose sleep, or in this instance, demand an apology or take legal action, over one ill-mannered person labelling me a liar on one thread when it is so easy to prove her in the wrong. Ultimately, though, this kind of behaviour will just leave half a dozen embittered people exchanging insults over every thread while the rest of us abandon the site altogether. |
