Loraine, I think there is a difference between PR and news. Noone said the world was going to stop. However, by the end of next year this country will already be poorer and debt higher. The IMF cut its forecasts by the UK substantially for next year, the only country to be downgraded more was .... Nigeria. It will be interesting to see how the next BoE forecasts look, wouldnt surprise me if they are more cautious, in part depends on what they intend to do. Lots more QE means a lot weaker pound. The IMF has produced two other set of predictions, a "moderately worse" one, and another that is "much worse", depending on how hard the UK finds it to re-establish trading relations with the EU and the rest of the world. The "much worse" scenario would see global growth slow to 2.8% this year and next. The fact is noone really knows, but one thing that is not happening to growth in the UK.... its not going up. |
