Elizabeth - an extremely good question. Yes £20m seems to be about the size of it. One of the problems with section 106 money is that the original commitments made by developers to make such payments are often tied to very specific types of expenditure and locations. The money cannot then be easily moved around to where it might do the most good - it has instead to wait for an appropriate scheme or project to emerge/come to fruition in the right location. In the past Officers (and sometimes members) have quite prudently earmarked specific s106 monies for upcoming schemes only to find them delayed or even cancelled. Sometimes all this can become lost in the mists of time ... Brian's last post was "witty" but well shy of the mark. |
