Any proof of that Claire or just a wild accusation ? - I'd love it if one day a Council planning officer or a developer took a poster to court about making such an allegation because it might might people think twice. I won't deny there is the odd bad apple out there in the planning world, but there are very few and far between, and having worked on both sides of the fence for over 17 years now I'm still yet to be offered a bribe or offer one myself. You see, there's this little thing called my career that is rather important to me, and as a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute my code of conduct requires me to me truthful and honest in all my professional dealings. Going back to this particular case, I don't think it's fair to criticise the applicant's professional team, rightly or wrongly (wrongly in my view) the Council's Conservation/Design has a fundamental objection to the scheme which Members have gone along with. Sometimes in the planning world you know that no matter what you throw at a scheme you're going to have to go to appeal permission, and realistically it's highly unlikely that any costs application would be successful given the subjective nature of the reason for refusal - unreasonable behaviour could only be concluded if the Council couldn't defend the reason for refusal, which is hardly likely to be the case on a subjective issue like this. |
