Lucy - despite living in the country with nothing but fields at the back and the sides of us, our cats are house cats - because we have a local couple of farmers who tend to shoot cats.
The grief of finding one's cat dumped in the local reservoir and being told the police can do nothing without photographic proof of the murderer is too much to bear and having suffered the loss of several cats we now keep our cats inside.
They are happy, healthy and we take them out on cat harnesses to eat grass and play with our ducks.
As with most domestic animals, they adjust.
