Re the specifics of entering a yellow box junction to turn right, I hadn't previously understood the interpretation put on it in an earlier post. The para says: "Rule 174 Box junctions. These have criss-cross yellow lines painted on the road (see ‘Road markings’). You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right. At signalled roundabouts you MUST NOT enter the box unless you can cross over it completely without stopping. Law TSRGD regs 10(1) & 29(2)" So, for example, if I'm turning right and can't exit the box junction onto my desired road because there's still a queue of cars waiting to move forward on that road, I'm not allowed into the box? I hadn't realised that. A lot of motorists don't seem to know they're allowed into the box at all to turn right and maybe this contributes to the confusion. But I am allowed into the box to turn right if my way is only blocked by others who are also waiting or queuing to turn right. Has this always been the case? |
