Why penalise children who want to be able to hear their lessons in their classrooms, people who want a decent night's sleep (Heathrow refuse to comply with a condition of the Davies report about no night flights)with the subsequent effects on their physical and mental health, work and relationships, and who want good health and not to breathe in toxic fumes from planes and the huge increase in traffic to an expanded airport? Thousands of people die at an early age in areas of great pollution - ie areas surrounding Heathrow - and children's lungs do not develop properly, leading to huge health issues later. Heathrow refuses to comply with the air quality stipulations of the Davies report. So, is the ability to go to Ibiza or whatever tomorrow rather than the day after worth that? I don't think so. Will they be allowed to flout the hardly stringent recommendations of the pro-expansion Davies report? Currently Heathrow is sticking two fingers up to it. If our government gives the go ahead to this it is a very cynical and money focused response to the very real dangers to the physical and mental wellbeing of millions. |
