Adam clearly has a bit of an issue with the coverage of development stories on this site. I recall him launching at least one similar barrage in the past. The item is a straightforward piece of reportage so perhaps Adam feels he is representing the interests of his customer Kim Gottlieb who may be aggrieved at coverage of his 32 storey tower project. Shooting the messenger in attempt to draw attention away from the message rarely works. Although I'm not that concerned about Empire House, there is perhaps reason to consider the way the system is now operating. If schemes like this are subject to pre-application discussions between Council and developer then doesn't that effectively mean that the Council would be subject to expensive legal action if they changed their mind? Ultimately this means that the key decisions on a development are already made before the public gets a chance to see it. Nobody believes that public consultations are seen as anything other than an annoying legal obligation by developers. The answer may be to involve recognised resident groups in these discussions so at least some local influence can be brought to bear on the outcome. There has been some nonsense published on this forum about the commercial sensitivity of these discussions but that shouldn't be used as a reason to effectively exclude local opinion from the decision making process. |
