"It's simple supply and demand but I guess economic education has missed the residents of Chiswick" Hmmm a bit harsh - sadly always supplying what is demanded is not always the solution and the concept of "I want it now" has created a consumer lead society whereby many think everything should be on demand irrespective of the practicalities. Yes people do have a right to have a home which is comfortable and safe and yes there is a shortage of housing, but should new housing developments be at the expense of residents, and to a lesser degree some businesses, who have contributed for decades to the local community and economy? Chiswick enjoys and strong spirit of community, a village like atmosphere and attractive vistas. If the Lend Lease, Brentford FC and this schemes go ahead in their current format then Chiswick will be the poorer for it. These schemes are not about enriching the area, but about enriching the Developers and LBH. Also, and please correct me if I'm wrong but what about Healthcare and Education amenities to support all these extra homes / people? I don't see much of that in any of the proposed new development schemes, save BFC I think may have made some healthcare provision. Also to suggest that if existing residents don't like the proposed high rise schemes they should sell up and move out to a village is outrageous - why should they? |
