That seems likely a sensible course of action. If you haven't sent them the money use a phrase like 'this payment should be regarded as full and final settlement of this matter'. If they cash the cheque that will be the end of it. If not and they do pursue you have a defence should they seek a CCJ for non-payment. NB I'm not qualified to offer you advice so this is just my opinion. |
