I never cycle up to the left of motor vehicles indicating left at the front of the queue at a traffic light. However if they are not indicating then I reckon I should be able to assume they are going straight on. As so many motorists do not use their indicators my policy is to try and catch their eye to make sure they know I am there. If I am there first and they pull up alongside me then (a) they should be aware of my presence and (b) I still try and catch their eye. If all motorists used their indicators when turning or changing lanes, and all cyclists made the recommended arm signals when they are doing the same, the roads would be much safer. Indeed IMHO not indicating should be an offence punishable by a fine, just as much as using a mobile when driving is. |
