Much of the recent press would indicate that Bill's DO keep the 12.5% service charge, and that staff see very little, if any of it. the point is that when I leave a tip, I am leaving it for the waiter / waitress who dealt with me during my meal. If he/she was attentive, pleasant, and made an effort, then I want to leave them a tip. I am not really interested in tipping the chef, or the cleaner, or the CFO for that matter (I guess they are all "involved"). And if the company wants to take my tip and share it out, or keep it, or use it to pay down debt, or whatever, then they should be honest and tell me this. Calling it a "service charge" implies it's a tip for good service. If it's not, then call it something else. Call it "profit support", or "Wage booster", or "Exec bonus contribution". I just hate the deception of it. It stinks. |
