So no one writing books or articles or being paid to give a talk or a lecture? No paid appearances on TV chat shows or being a "talking head" in a documentary?

How about being a trustee of a charity or a non-executive director? What about professionals such as doctors, dentists and lawyers who want to "keep their hand in"? 

We complain about MPs not knowing anything of the real world and then ask them to be full time politicians - is there not a contradiction here?

Surely this is all about "balance" and transparency? In my opinion a decent process for the recall of MPs who are just "feathering their own nest" would nip most of the worst abuses in the bud.
