Personally speaking, I'm not wholly against this.

Most individuals in a high ranking position in business earn considerably more than £70k.  Many people feel that today's MPs (i.e. those from an extremely privileged and financially secure background) are increasingly out of touch with the electorate as they haven't experienced life in the same way that the majority of the populous have.

Perhaps by increasing MP's salaries it will become more financially attractive to 'normal folk' who have worked their way up through the ranks in business and have a clearer understanding of how the world works for most people?
