"1. There are people who help with various administrative duties, some of whom attend almost daily for several hours or an entire day to answer the phone, deal with correspondence, etc." Sounds like any office job. Most of us are able to commute by public transport or use eco friendly methods. What's so special about Buddhist admin? "2. The Vihara is recognised in the world of Theravada Buddhism as an important centre. It does, therefore, attract visitors from both within the borough and from much further away, many of whom come by car." Why do they come by car? If they were told NOT to come by car the need would evaporate. "3" Sounds like a load of BS - why on earth are people carting cooking utensils around the planet - as far as food deliveries are concerned use Tesco on-line. This seems a dubious set of excuses to continue a practice that is not commensurate with modern environmentally friendly expectations. Well done the Council! |
