That is not the Mayhew's main focus. They are trying to prevent unwanted animals being born in the first place, with their trap, neuter and release of feral cats, low cost neutering programme for other animals, which I believe ADM themselves take advantage of, and as I mentioned a huge expansion of the vet programme as well as animal welfare and education progrrammes, none of which you do. Ricky Gervais, Joanna Lumley and many other celebrities are massive supporters of the Mayhew and they have a wonderful reputation internationally for their welfare programmes including training of vets. I think winning a very large amount of money for their new vet clinic to offer low cost neutering and other operations for sick animals from another charity against very stiff competition for their vet clinic speaks volumes in my opinion. There is of course a need for a big rehoming programme, but the Mayhew wants to stop the problem at source as well as deal with the effects, just dealing with the effects is not enough, other charities such as yours are doing that, but it is a sticking plaster rather than treating the real problem - it is just as important to try to stop the problem at source by focusing on prevention of unwanted animals by neutering, and working with the community to try to stop people mistreating and abandoning animals - the Mayhew puts a lot of their precious resources into this to try to reduce the number of animals that need rehoming rather than just act as an animal placement outlet. |
